Route Notes

112

Lamb/Desert Inn

Route 112 was started as the eastern portion of Route 4 with the CAT system startup on 12/5/92. It was renumbered in 1993 as route 112 and serviced East Desert Inn Road and the entire length of Lamb Blvd, as well as entering the Boulevard Mall. In 1994, it was rerouted from using Las Vegas Blvd as the west loop to using Channel 8 Drive as the west loop. In 1995, the route was rerouted on the west end to loop twice around the layover using small access roads. This was later reverted in October 1996 back to the Channel 8 loop, as well as removal from the mall. The route then stayed as was until 11/05/06 when it was replaced by route 213 and extended to service West Desert Inn.

116

Boulder City

Originally the southern portion of Route 107 in July 1993, Route 116 was started on 1/28/96 to service south Henderson and Boulder City. The orginial northern terminus was at the Triple J Casino parking lot but was moved on May 7, 2000 to the area of College & Horizon. The route stayed as is until it began interlining with route 402 on 10/23/05 and then until it was completely replaced by 402 on 2/19/06. This route number returned to service on 6/1/08 as route 116 - Koval/Industrial replacing the soutnern half of route 105.

Other names route number was given: 402/116 – Crosstown Connector/Boulder City

118

Fort Apache/Rampart

Route 118 started service on 10/23/05 to service the Summerlin and Southwest areas. 118 was suspended on 07/23/06, with the agency citing budget cuts, although the route was performing incredibly well, with ridership being very high for a 1st year route. As of 2008, the agency never officially released a notice that discontinued the route, however, the likelihood of its return is low to none.

Other names route number was given: none

205

Oakey Blvd.

Originally the western portion of Route 5, Route 205 was started in 1993 to service downtown las Vegas, IRS, W. Oakey Blvd., and the Vegas Drive/Cimmaron area. In 1994, it was rerouted to terminate at the intersection of Westcliff & Buffalo. In 1997, it was extended a little further down Westcliff to Lorenzi, and then shortened to Rainbow. In 2000, began one way couplet service in downtown. In 2002 the route was modified yet again to service from the Rainbow/Westcliff area, east to Palace Station, UMC Hospital, and downtown. On 01/26/03, it was discontinued after 10 years in service due to declining ridership.

Other names route number was given: none

216

Henderson

Originally the southern end of Route 15, then the eastern end of the original Route 212, Route 216 was created in October 1995 to service the Downtown Henderson Local area only. It started as a one way loop service but commenced two way loop service in January 1996 and was modified to service more of Lake Mead Pkwy. On May 7, 2000, the route ceased service to the Triple J Casino, forcing passengers to walk a block or two. However, this decision was reverted in March 2002 when the route returned service to Triple J, but stopping across the street at the local K-Mart. Later that year in September, the route ceased two way loop service and returned to the original one way loop. However, many folks were not fond of this change, and two way service returned quickly in late 2003. Unfortunately, it would not last long. In February 2006, the route was discontinued and replaced by two new routes, 404 and 406, which commenced an east and west service, respectfully. However, these two routes would also fade away and service eventually was picked up in October 2007 by route 217.

Other names route number was given: 216 – Henderson Local

301

Las Vegas Strip

Originally Route 16, Route 301 was started in 1993 to service the world famous Las Vegas Strip, as well as Downtown Las Vegas. The route’s southern terminus changed a few times throughout it service life, beginning at the Vacation Village Casino, which was at the south end of the strip at that time. In early 2002, the Vacation Village Casino closed its doors and its property to the strip routes. In March, all routes that were terminating there, began to terminate at the corner of Sunset Rd. and Gilespie St. until 2003 when the South Strip Transfer Terminal was opened and all the routes moved into their new home. The route remained the most profitable, and busy, bus route in the system until October 27, 2005 when the RTC commenced The Deuce double deck service on the strip, and it was replaced. Although the public now knows it as The Deuce, internally at the agency, it is still technically considered Route 301 since most of the computer data requires a route number, therefore saving it from complete replacement.

302

Las Vegas Strip Express

Originally Route 17, Route 302 was started in 1993 as “Strip Shuttle” to service the world famous Las Vegas Strip, Las Vegas Hilton, Las Vegas Convention Center, UNLV and McCarran Airport. The southern terminus was the Vacation Village Casino, while the other terminus was at McCarran Airport. The route would travel on Las Vegas Blvd. to St. Louis, then travel on Paradise Road to the airport. From the airport, the route would travel on Swenson and return to St. Louis, and back down the strip. In January 1995, the route was discontinued, with the Paradise/Swenson/Airport portion picked up by the new Route 108, which was previously assigned to another route. In October 1995, Route 304 “Strip Express” was proposed, but this too failed. Finally, on January 26, 1997, Route 302 “Strip Express” was commenced with limited stop service on Las Vegas Blvd, paralleling Route 301 for its entire length. The route was a hit with locals seeking fast service to and from work, as well as the tourists who wished to travel the strip faster. However, in January 2003, the route was discontinued citing budget cuts, but returned on 6/29/03. The route performed well until 10/23/05 when the route was finally discontinued to prepare for the launch of The Deuce strip service.

303

Outlet Mall Circulator

Originally a portion of Route 19, then the southern portion of the original Route 108, Route 303 officially commenced service in April 1994, between the Vacation Village Casino and the Factory Stores, as “Route 303 – Las Vegas Blvd South”. In September, the route was modified to also service the Boomtown Casino (Later to be known as Silverton Hotel). In late 2001/early 2002, the route was modified to service between the Belz Factory Outlet Stores and Gilespie/Sunset. The route was also renamed “Outlet Mall Circulator”. The route was replaced on 2/19/06 with The Deuce Outlet Mall Circulator.

Other names route number was given: 303 – Las Vegas Blvd. South

Deuce

Outlet Mall Circulator

Originally Route 303, The Deuce Mall Circ. commenced service on 2/19/06 and ran service between the Las Vegas Outlet Stores and SSTT. This route was discontinued and replaced by The Deuce Strip on 10/28/07.

401

Downtown Circulator

Route 401 started service on 1/28/96 to provide service throughout downtown Las Vegas, including the UMC/Valley Hospital area, city and county government buildings, the RTC, the RFCD, museums, and Cashman Field. In 1997, the route was extended south to service Palace Station Hotel. The route remained the same until May 7, 2000, when service was shortened on the northern portion and terminated at the DTC. The route saw its first total termination in March 2002, when it was discontinued. The route was reinstated on 2/19/06 to its previous routing with a minor modification in downtown. Unfortunalty, its return was not as popular as was thought, and for a final time, Route 401 was discontinued on 11/5/06.

Other names route number was given: none

403

North Las Vegas Connector

403 started service on 10/26/97 to provide service from downtown to Craig Road, and terminating at O’Callaghan Federal Hospital. In March 2002, the route was greatly modified to service from downtown to Ann/Revere intersection. Service was lost to Craig Road and Nellis AFB area. In October 2004, service was returned to the previous routing to Nellis, with the exception of O’Callaghan Hospital. Route was completely revamped on 10/28/07 to provide service from the resort corridor to far north Las Vegas valley and Nellis AFB. Route was replaced with route 119 on 6/1/08 since the 400 numbering is only for connector services and the current routing represents a north/south route, hence the 100 numbering.

Other names route number was given: 403 – DTC/Craig Connector

404

East Downtown Henderson

Route 404 commenced in March 2002 as the Summerlin Circulator, providing two way service throughout the community of Summerlin. However, service was discontinued in 2003, possibly due to the budget cuts the agency was performing at that time. On February 19, 2006, the route number returned but with a new assignment. This time it is servicing the east side of Downtown Henderson, replacing the 216 East. Unfortunately, this was short lived as Route 404 was discontinued on 11/5/06.

Other names route number was given: 404 – Summerlin Circulator

405

Northwest Circulator

Route 405 commenced services in September 2002 providing loop service throughout the far northwest valley, with its terminus at the Santa Fe Station Casino. The route performed fair during its service life and was discontinued in October 31, 2004 as the new Route 219 was to take over its service area.

Other names route number was given: none

406

Downtown Henderson

Route 406 started services on February 19, 2006 servicing the west side of downtown Henderson, replacing Route 216 West. The route connected with Route 404, which serviced the east side of downtown Henderson. To make service more reliable, Route 404 was discontinued on 11/5/06, and Route 406 took over all of downtown Henderson effective that date. The route faired with the riders who seemed to enjoy a quiet ride around the neighborhood. The route happily continued service until 10/28/07, when route 217 replaced it.

Other names route number was given: 406 – West Downtown Henderson

407

Boulder Highway Limited

Originally Route 1107, Route 407 commenced in April 1994 as the Boulder Highway Limited route providing express service from downtown Las Vegas, down Boulder Highway to Missouri. This route stayed in service until January 28, 1996, possibly with route frequency increases on Route 107.

Other names route number was given: none

551

Monorail/Downtown Connector

Route 551 was started on July 15, 2004 to provide connector service from downtown Las Vegas to the Sahara Monorail Station. Service was to operate on a 10-minute headway throughout the day from 8am to 12 midnight to go along with the Las Vegas Monorail's operation schedule at that time.  Prior to the starting date, the route was mention in the April 2004 transit guide to inform transit riders that a route will be created when the monorail starts service. In the April 2004 guide, route 551 did not service the Las Vegas Premium Outlet area, but when the route started, the route was rerouted to service that area.  The fare for this route was only 50 cents.  The route had very limited number of stops and stopped at the following locations (going through the loop):
-DTC (starting point)
-Main St. & Odgen Ave.
-Las Vegas Premium Outlet
-Sahara Monorail Station (turn around point)
-Las Vegas Premium Outlet
-Clark County Government
-4th Street and Fremont St.

However, the excitement of a new route quickly died as little to no riders took advantage of it, and just two weeks later, on July 28, 2004, the RTC was forced to discontinue service on this route. To date, Route 551 holds 2 significant titles: Shortest service life & lowest ridership. When asked, most transit riders are not aware that this route even existed.
